Talent on de rail
August 20, 2008

On the train today, it was one of those quiet trips. Busy but quiet. People on their way to work with nothing to say to each other.

Then after one stop, in the distance I could hear a band playing. I thought great. CityRail must have organised a surprise for us, some famous band playing on the early morning train to promote their cheaper earlybird fees.

As my carriage got less busy and seats started to empty, the band was sounding closer. I was so curious to know who they were. I thought I could hear Metallica, then some trumpets, then some Queen, then some Greenday. Surely it must be some cover band.

They must be in the next carriage. How can I make my way there? I get up of my seat when I realise that this late-teen sitting in front of me is listening to music on his headphones so loud that it might have as well been a live band playing. I wonder if he does it cause he’s deaf or he’s deaf because he does it. In any case he must be deaf.

Loud-music guy, if you recognise yourself in this photo, TURN IT DOWN FOR YOUR OWN SAKE!

At least later on I got to see some real talent. This islander youth with a thin pony-tail drumming cool beats on his basketball and showing off his basketball finger spinning tricks.

Thanks for the show.
